Who's behind La Clave Community?
Haley Wohlever, part-time Cuban dance instructor and full-time Cuban dance enthusiast, serendipitously began dancing rueda de casino at the University of Rochester in 2015, and remains grateful that the course of her life brought her to this music, dance, and community. She has been fortunate to study many styles of Cuban dance under incredible instructors, and to teach and perform with groups including the CA Bay Area's Rueda con Ritmo and Boston's MetaMovements under Javier Jeffer. After teaching for several years on the west coast, Haley moved back home to to RI and founded her own dance group, La Clave Community, to share her love of Cuban music and dance. When not dancing, what remains of Haley's free time is largely spent with her cat, Timba.

Testimonials
“Haley is a natural teacher, she is particular about the art form, observant and also knows how to balance gentleness and persistence for improvement. The consistency and care with which she ran the classes, especially for free, is admirable. It was more well structured and conducive to growth than a bunch of other classes I have been to. Also, just a vibe of creating a space where people find belonging and goodness and the ability to just flow is priceless. Thank you!”
"Thursday classes are run smoothly, clearly, and with an abundance of fun. Instructors are skilled, humorous, and adaptive. We cover new moves quickly but also take the time to fine tune body movements, counts, and directions."
"Haley is a fantastic teacher! She has a meticulous work ethic and attention to detail in every aspect: from breaking down both lead and follow roles during class, pointing out the exact counts for complex moves, and sharing detailed information to expand on her students’ experience and appreciation of the art/culture of casino dance. Her classes are always carefully thought out, and her choreographies/calling explore creative ways to hit musicality with pointed precision. Plus, I love her calls and innovative moves for switch ruedas, it’s always so fun!! I think any dancer would benefit greatly in working individually with Haley, as she has a keen eye for areas of improvement, extensive knowledge of casino history, and a very thoughtful and kind manner of helping you improve on your styling/partnering technique."
"My only complaint about private lessons with Haley is that I didn't have time to take more of them!"
